Wee Fancy Tea Information

Tucked into a busy stretch of Newark, Wee Fancy Tea offers a refreshing break from the usual coffee shop routine, leaning fully into the charm of a classic afternoon tea experience. Walking into Wee Fancy Tea, the atmosphere immediately feels cozy and intentionally curated, with delicate décor, mismatched teacups, and a quiet hum of conversation that makes it easy to settle in for a slower-paced visit.

The menu is where this place really shines, especially if you’re in the mood for something a little different from standard diner fare. Their tea selection is thoughtfully put together, ranging from traditional black blends to herbal infusions, each served properly steeped and presented with care. It’s clear from both the menu and the service that there’s an emphasis on doing tea the right way, not just offering it as an afterthought. Pairing your pot with one of their tiered trays-stacked with finger sandwiches, scones, and petite desserts-feels like the full experience, and it’s easy to see why many reviews highlight this as the go-to order.

The food itself leans light but flavorful. The scones, in particular, stand out for being tender without feeling dry, and they’re served with classic accompaniments like clotted cream and jam. Sandwich options are simple yet well-executed, often featuring fresh ingredients that keep things from feeling too heavy. It’s not a place you go for a big, hearty meal, but rather for a leisurely, almost ritual-like dining experience.

Service here tends to match the tone of the space-unhurried, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Staff are usually happy to explain tea options or recommend combinations if you’re unsure what to order, which makes it approachable even if you’re new to afternoon tea. That said, during busier hours, things can slow down a bit, so it’s worth planning for a relaxed visit rather than a quick stop.

Given its location at 890 Peoples Plaza, it’s a convenient spot for locals looking for something a little special without leaving Newark. While it may not have the scale or polish of larger tea houses you’d find in bigger cities, it makes up for it with personality and a clear passion for the experience it’s trying to create, which comes through strongly in both the menu and the overall vibe.

What People's Say About Place

Really enjoyed the food and the decor. Could tell everything was homemade. Also could tell the assemble the sandwiches to order as opposed to sitting assembled in the fridge. The bread pudding dessert was my favorite. The chicken salad on the raisin bread is delicious. As were the rest. Scones were delicious, texture is more like cake but very yummy. I had the strawberry cream tea and it was tasty.

BEAUTIFUL, to say the least! I had my Baby Shower here and people could not stop telling me how beautiful it was (& I agree)! The photos we took came out stunning...pretty in pink vibes. The built in photo props with the pink bench, phone booth, etc were absolutely amazing and so fabulous that they were there and ready for us! Food and tea were delicious and put together to appear as lovely as they tasted. Mini sandwiches were a hit! Our cake and cupcakes looked adorable with the cute table settings available. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked, minus the need for infant changing tables I would say they were perfect. I would totally recommend this as a special occasion venue or afternoon tea time spot! I can't wait to come back!

I was so excited to find out about this place. Definitely a hidden gem!! After trying to make reservations for my daughter's and l, in Maryland and not having any luck, I extended the perimeters and SO glad I did!!! We had the most enjoyable experience. The food was awesome, the tea was BEYOND exceptional, and staff very down to earth and helpful. I recommend this for a ladies afternoon social gathering. You won't regret it!! There's plenty of room, also.

My wife and I enjoy the afternoon tea experience and have visited tea rooms all over the country. Wee Fancy Tea was wonderful. It was our first Delaware tea room, and it did not disappoint. We started with the charcuterie boards, which had fresh fruit cheese, crackers, and bread. The highlight for us was the whipped berry cream cheese topped with craisins, nuts, and honey. My favorite tea was Strawberry Cream. We loved that the pot was placed on a warmer to keep our tea hot, but we did not like that we had to strain it as we poured it into our cup. Tea tastes bitter if it steeps too long. The last cup of every pot was not as good as the first. The standout sandwiche for me was the roast beef with chedder and apricot jam. I would not have thought of this delicious combination on my own. I also love chicken salad on cinnamon raisins bread. The sandwiches, however, were mostly standard for a tea room, but the desserts were outstanding. I loved every single one. The tea menu was not very large, but there were plenty of teas to choose from. One important note is that you can change the tea flavor without a charge if you order a menu item with bottomless tea. So you can try a few flavors when you visit, and I recommend that you visit soon.

When my 13 year old suggested the Wee tea room for a Birthday Brunch for me, I thought it was a perfect idea. The aesthetic was right up our alley. We drove all the way from Dover on a Saturday just to find out, we needed a reservation. Even though we didn’t have one, I appreciate how accommodating they were. I am in a wheelchair, and seating in the lobby area turned out to be a great Choice for me after all. My Mother, Myself, and My Daughter had a wonderful time. The tea was Delicious!!! The food, and desserts we had were delicious as well!!! My daughter couldn’t have picked a better place to spend my Birthday. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we have decided to make this a monthly event. The service from Management, to the waitress was an absolute pleasure. I’m certain I smiled the entire time. Thank you Wee Tea Room!!!

Had a wonderful experience for my daughters sweet 16. This was a great way to introduce the young men to fancy tea time as well. And they all loved it!

Just enjoyed a delightful lunch at Wee Fancy Tea n People’s Plaza, Glasgow DE with my daughter. Wonderful selections of different levels of Afternoon Tea, sandwiches , scones, desserts, quiche and soup- and delicious teas. Highly recommend. We will be back! And yes they have empress cookies!

Stopped by on a whim. Super cute and the staff was so welcoming! They made sure I had a good time despite there being a large group planned for that day - tucked me into a quieter area that I much preferred. Their fresh made soup of the day was delicious and the tea set up superb. Will def come back again with my family.
